Frequently Asked Questions
Why the name Hapless + Hopeless?
Born at a time of disarray and upheaval, the blog began as a quiet corner to share my clumsy escapades, as a clueless newlywed. As life settled, I craved new experiences and began to share the things I had learned, the places I had been and the products I had bought.
I considered a name change to reflect this new direction but I reminded myself that I will always be clumsy and awkward and ultimately life is not perfect, but we can still make it beautiful. I also can’t find a name I like – any ideas?
Where are you based?
I am based in Melbourne, Australia but I am from London and occasionally blog from there during long visits home.
Do you take your own photos?
I wish I was that talented! The majority of photos on the blog are stock photos with a free license so that I can keep a high level of quality images and also find a variety of subjects . I do love photography though and you can find all of my iPhone snaps on my Instagram feed.
Are you being paid to review products?
No, the vast majority of reviews are on products I have purchased myself. I sometimes receive free samples, a gift or an event invitation, but I’ll only say yes if it is a brand or product I’m genuinely interested in. I will only recommend or post about a product that I genuinely love and the post will contain a disclosure on the nature of the collaboration, i.e. gift, sponsorship etc. For more information please see my disclosure policy.
Do you use affiliate links?
No. I tried it once, thinking I might be able to provide a more rounded service but I swiftly removed them, as they made me feel icky and spammy! If I do use them in future, my full disclosure policy will apply.
